Who we are

Building permament market structures

A bank-anchored climate finance advisory and platform design firm, built around how the finacial sector lends, manage risks, and scales.

Climate Gateway Africa enables the effective deployment of climate capital into African SME economies. We work with commercial banks as anchor institutions, and with DFIs, climate funds, and donors as capital partners, to design execution-ready platforms that align with bank balance sheets, credit processes, and governance. Our work is grounded in the practical realities of how banks lend, manage risk, and scale portfolios.

What we do

Climate Gateway Africa operates as a neutral, non-lending and non-fiduciary advisor, designing the systems that let climate finance deploy through African commercial banks at scale. Our role spans five core areas.

01

Bank Climate Finance Platform Architecture

We support commercial banks to design bank-owned climate finance platforms that integrate into existing institutional structures.

This includes

  • Defining the operating model, governance, and decision rights for climate finance within the bank.
  • Aligning climate products with existing credit, risk, treasury, and SME business units.
  • Designing product and portfolio structures that scale across sectors and geographies.
PurposeTo ensure climate finance is embedded within the bank's core business, rather than treated as a standalone or pilot initiative.
02

Facility & Capital Structuring

CGA supports the structuring of bank-anchored climate finance facilities that align concessional and commercial capital.

This includes

  • Designing facility structures that fit bank balance sheets and risk appetite.
  • Aligning guarantees, first-loss tranches, technical assistance, and results-based funding.
  • Preparing execution-ready facility concepts suitable for DFI and donor engagement.
PurposeTo translate climate capital into structures banks can absorb and deploy efficiently.
03

SME Pipeline & Value-Chain Aggregation

CGA supports the development of credible, investable SME pipelines aligned with bank underwriting reality.

This includes

  • Identifying priority climate-aligned sectors where banks already lend.
  • Designing value-chain and aggregation models that lower transaction costs.
  • Supporting origination logic that enables portfolio-level deployment, not isolated deals.
PurposeTo ensure capital is deployed into scalable portfolios, not fragmented transactions.
04

Governance, ESG & Reporting Architecture

CGA designs fit-for-purpose governance and reporting frameworks that meet DFI and donor requirements while integrating into bank systems.

This includes

  • Portfolio-level ESG and impact frameworks aligned with bank MIS.
  • Gender and inclusion tagging consistent with DFI standards.
  • Reporting architectures that support accountability without operational burden.
PurposeTo strengthen transparency, credibility, and confidence for all capital providers.
05

Institutional Readiness & Execution Support

CGA supports banks to move from strategy to deployment by strengthening execution readiness.

This includes

  • Assessing institutional readiness for climate finance deployment.
  • Sequencing implementation to avoid internal overload.
  • Supporting early-stage pilots designed for replication and scale.
PurposeTo reduce execution risk and accelerate time to first deployment.

The last-mile bottleneck we solve

  • Weak pipeline development
  • Misaligned incentives
  • Fragmented donor flows
  • Lack of ESG infrastructure
  • Limited SME readiness

What makes us different

  • Bank-anchored finance pathways
  • Aligned incentives
  • Nordic technology transfer
  • Multi-country facility models
  • Systems-first approach

CGA ensures every dollar of climate finance is deployed efficiently, transparently, and where it creates the greatest impact.
